"Hi Karen,
I have been meaning to write you and send in Waci’pi Mahpiya’s
registration paperwork. Waci’pi
means dancer and Mahpiya means cloud. We
call her Cloud Dancer. She is the daughter of your Majestic View’s Whitney and
Majestic View’s Paahuma.
Mahpiya is a very special dog. When
I first got her, my best friend and her husband came over to see her. They are a
very traditional Lakota family.
He is a medicine man, which can only be truly passed down genetically through
his bloodline. This is why there are very few True medicine men left in the
world today. His medicine is the prairie dog medicine and the spider medicine.
He has ceremony’s sweats, and has a sundance.
He is truly remarkable and his wife is as special as he is.
They have been together 29 plus years and compliment each other.
Anyway, after their visit, she
called me and told me, because, following the traditional way, I do not speak to
him, she told me that Mahpiya (our NAID) had talked to him and was one of his
spirit helpers. She was young
and needed to learn some things, and he would send some of his other spirit to
assist her in learning.
To make a long story short, as part of my Sundance give away this year, I
gifted Mahpiya to him. She belongs
with him. She is part of his medicine. They
communicate and talk in a very unique and sacred way.
I have never seen anything like this before.
They live in the country, of course, she has plenty of room to run, but
never strays. She also hunts prairie
dogs and always gets one.
Their connection with each other goes far beyond this realm and I truly
believe that she was sent here because of him and his alter.
She is so special it goes beyond words.
Our Medicine Man has owned many different dogs in his life, some pure wolves
and a few high content wolf dogs, but they have never acted, or responded or
communicated with him the way Mahpiya has done she truly is a different breed of
dog.
I want to thank you again for breeding the dogs of my People and providing us
with such an incredibly, remarkable dog such as Waci’pi Mahpiya."~~~

“Hi,
I just wanted to say that I appreciate your interest in native American
dogs. I am a full blooded Lakota from the Rosebud res. in SD...
We used to have dogs like the ones shown on your web site when I was a
child. Most were just around and were great pets and hunting dogs. I always
wondered as an adult what kind of dogs they really were. Guess I was
influenced by the European breeds some people had and just labeled them as
mutts.
Now as an adult raising pure bred dogs. I have looked for the old 'rez dogs'
I grew up with but have found most have been interbred with various other
breeds. Thank you for the attempt to keep my beloved "rez dog" alive.
I hope to have another such dog sometime in the near future. Perhaps one from
one of your future litters.
Thank you,
S- C-“

"Hello Karen,
I am of Cherokee/Sioux blood (Tsalagi/Lakota). My Great grandfather (Lakota) used to talk to me about the dogs his family had when he was a young child- this was a special connection he and I always shared, our love of dogs. The animals he described to me seem to be the same as your NAID's, they fit the picture in my mind that he always spoke of. He truly loved these dogs and he missed them greatly in his old age. I enjoyed your site very much and found it to be so informative- fantastic pictures! You have some beautiful dogs- such spirit shows through them even in the pictures. I apologize for this being so lengthy, but I just was overwhelmed to find your site and my Great grandfather came rushing back to me as I read and saw these fantastic pictures, like ones I had seen only in my mind for years! My great grandfather would be so happy!!"
