“Dear Karen,
I cannot express how privileged we feel to
have Mohegan (son of M.V.'s Petaga and M.V.'s Ohapi Wagmu) in our lives.
WHAT A GOOOOOOD PUPPY!!!!!! I have trained
(because that is what I do for a living) and been exposed
to hundreds of
puppies & dogs and I must say, he is amazing! He was
clicker trained within 5 minutes. He can now sit, down, come to his name
and just this a.m. learned the touch command. He offers the sit as
his standby command. He loves training (of course it's all fun!).
When he gets frustrated because it's not going fast enough he stares at my
eyes and howls.
Axle (our black lab) had his "nose
out of joint" for the first 2 days, but Mohegan won his heart with
his persistence. The first play bow Axle did with him brought tears to my
eyes, Axle hasn't played since Winston died. He now plays with
Mohegan regularly and is very gentle, Mohegan loves him very much.
I
was not sure of how the NAIDs like water. Well we found out fast!
We have a quarry about 3 miles from the house. Axle loves the
water, of course, what lab doesn't? Mohegan stood at the side with
just his feet in at first, became very frustrated that his new friend was
only a few feet from him but was unsure of this liquid surrounding them.
I swear he closed his eyes and just jumped forward the look of surprise
was soooo funny and then the "I can swim" look was evident. He
follows Axle in and out the water and runs along the beach grabbing
sticks.
We
hike through the trails roughly 2 miles almost every day, taking our time,
learning and becoming dogs together. Mohegan is very brave and willing to
go anywhere we go. He loves his pack and has found his place here.
He is very happy and healthy and already weighs 25lbs. He is a wonderful
car rider, jumps in on his own and has learned to stay in the back laying
with Axle.
I
will update you as his life goes on but I just want u to know how grateful
we are for being allowed to have one of your puppies, and to let u know
that he is loved very much and is truly a happy, happy, puppy and that
life is good.
Thank
you so much for being such a wonderful breeder Karen.
Kathy,
Steve, Axle and Mohegan Mackin”

“Hi Karen,
Thought I would give you an update on our Mohegan. He has
definitely come into his own. He is a wonderful watch dog, he has a
very unique sound that's for sure, sort of a bark-howl combination and
will not approach anyone he does not know until I am present and even then
only on his terms. He is friendly but cautious of new people, his
tail is now erect and his body posture is solid and sure of himself, ( I
think he realized one day how large he has become). He is certainly Mom's
suck, I have heard those comments more than once, "My goodness he
sure loves her " is the general observation. He still interacts well
with all dogs, only now he is very confident and stands his ground with
the best of them. A lab, pit X growled at his old buddy Axle at the
conservation area the other day and Mohegan sure answered that, he towered
over him and growled back (not sure of the exact exchange of thoughts) but
the X decided it was best to wag tails drop body posture and make friends.
He is very very pack oriented, more so than anything else I have worked
with, so training for me, is easy with him since I am a true believer in
that relationship, I'm not sure what would happen if he was to be raised
without that leadership but I can guess he would be confused and unhappy.
I am attaching more pics of him. He is now 100.5lbs and is just now
beginning to fill out a bit. He is very long and tall, it is hard to
believe that he was so small only a year ago. Rest assured Karen, that
Mohegan is loved and cared for, I only hope that all of your NAIDS end up
in the wonderful homes that they so deserve.
Hope all is well, take care
Kathy, Steve, Axle and our Mohegan”
