“Hi Karen!

It appears that most of the shyness has already passed.  He and Jacob, our 5 year old, are best friends already.  He chases Jake around and tackles him!

Thanks again”

Denali

“Dear Karen & Norbert,

Hello!  Our puppy is 5 months old now and we named her Denali.  She arrived from the airport with a handwritten note on her paperwork from the airlines on what a beautiful pup she was.  We agree.
She's playful and energetic, although she's got the unfortunate habit of urinating when she's excited or anxious.  That's a new experience that we're working on with her.  She and our older puppy, Kea, get along fine.  Denali has already surpassed Kea in size but Kea is faster and more agile on her cornering; Denali has more enthusiasm.  Denali's paws are still huge; we're curious to see if she surpasses the size of our past malamutes.  The neighborhood kids love to visit the dogs.  Denali is a snuggler and
loves being where the family is.  She adores having her belly (or any other part of her) rubbed and has been quick to roll over for a rub since the day we got her.  The other puppy has never been a fan of belly rubs.  We have a terrible time trying to keep water out for the dogs since Denali is always drinking it then pawing out the bowls till they're empty.  I found it interesting to see that some of the other puppies on your web site have the same characteristic according to their owners.  Denali gets so excited to watch the kids at the bus stop (by our driveway) that she jumps up on the rock wall/fence and watches them.  Fortunately she's not been willing to jump over the fence!  She's enterprising--if we leave a window or door open a bit, she'll paw it open enough to jump through!  She's kept the darker tortoise coloring, with livery-gold undertones in her coat; her face has stayed dark.  Her coat has the shaggier look vs. the sleek, shorter
coat of some of the NAIDs.  It seems to reflect her personality.  I walked into the kitchen from doing yard work the other day and discovered fur on the floor. When questioned, my 3-yr-old son told me that he had "given Denali a trim".  I'm impressed that she sat still for that!  Fortunately it was only a few clips from her shoulder fur.  She's just getting beyond the "chew on everything" stage, but I'm afraid her digging is here to stay if she follows the trend of our malamutes.  She likes to chew on the wood play house/swing set in the back yard but we haven't had any splinters to date.  She really enjoys running free in the desert and so far hasn't had any run-ins with plant thorns/needles.  She has much of the personality of our past male malamute--even down to the way she walks.  She's just a happy-to-be-alive-and-part-of-your-world kind of a dog.  We have some friends with a malamute puppy of their own who baby sit Denali and Kea when we're away.  They LOVE Denali, too.  Even their 2-yr-old son looks forward to being "tackled" by Denali when they're playing.   Thanks Again so much.

Kaya

"Karen and Family,

Kaya is growing up so fast!  By 4 1/2 weeks she was climbing the stairs and wrestling with the other dogs. She has become much more independent since then, but still loves her snuggle time.  She is so friendly and instantly loves everyone.  She is very smart, she can sit for treats and goes outside to the bathroom all by herself.  She gets along great with our other dogs and loves playing all day with her older brother Riley (Border Collie) and her aunt Tucker (lab/husky mix).  Her most favorite thing to do is go hiking and exploring in the woods.  In the last few weeks her coloring has changed so much.  When we first brought her home she was mostly gray with a touch of brown, now the brown is really starting to show everywhere and is looking a little red too.  We also noticed in one of our pictures that the white patch on her chest resembles the shape of a bird.
... we are very satisfied customers.
Thanks again to the entire Markel family from; Dave, Heather, Kaya, Riley, and Tucker"

"Hi Karen,

Here are some updated pictures of Kaya.  She is doing great, 7 weeks and 10 1/2 lbs.  She is a very fast learner, she can already sit on command and go potty outside all by herself.  She plays well with our other dogs, she can really hold her own.  She likes Heather's cats too, they are the perfect play size, for now.  Her coloring has changed so much, she is turning a little reddish/ brown, but still has quite a bit of gray...  I sent a picture her and our border collie Riley.  Thanks again to the entire Markel family for everything.

“Hi Karen,

Just wanted to give you an update on Koda.  He's doing great and growing fast.  He appears to be very happy and healthy and will be going to visit the vet tomorrow for a checkup and shots.  He loves going to work with me where he has free roam of 7-10 acres depending on where we are, but he never strays too far.  Like others have also noted, he's very intelligent and behaves well on a leash and knows the sit command.  The kids are also enjoying him a lot and love to take him for walks to the river where Koda loves to play in the mud.   I saw the 2 pictures on your site and will be sending some more next week for you. Also, whenever we take him anywhere, people always ask about him and say how beautiful he is.

Thanks again for the wonderful dog!!

Tim”

" I just had a minute and wanted to update you on your Virginia Beach puppy!- He is asking to be let out to go potty- when left in the house alone- only goes potty on his "Puppy pads" and knows how to "sit"!!!!!! At 6 weeks old!!!! He even sits for the kids.  He has also learned not to use his humans as a chew toy- (at least he has stopped on Kevin and I- we are still helping him learn not to chew on his human kids- "a firm no stops him") He is amazing- Michele"

“Hey, Karen, just wanted to let you know- Meeko is now playing in his pool!!! It took awhile but he loves it- he tries to catch the fish that are painted in the plastic of it!  He also graduated puppy school with honors- I even have a bumper sticker that says so!!! Son of Pasasa and Paahuma, blue in color.”

"Hi Karen,

Well, get this, Meeko is 3 months old now and ......( sometimes I forget how young he really is)  knows, sit, lay down, off, drop it, out, leave it, and now stay and working on come. He has full run of the house, no messes and does not tear anything up while we are gone or are sleeping- also knows at night he is not allowed on the bed, but once the alarm goes off he is up licking our faces and whining or us to get up. He is the smartest dog I have ever seen. When doing the stay command he does not break eye contact with me until I release him. He lays in the kitchen with us while we eat but doesn't beg at the table - he always gets his share when we are done though! Just thought I'd send this update!!”  Kevin and Michele

"Hi Karen,

Meeko is sooooo handsome!!! I can see Paahuma in him with a little of Pasasa. If we could have had you design him for us (which you kind of did) he is exactly in looks what we wanted- we wanted a Pahuuma look a like- God knew which litter we were suppose to get from.  enjoy the pictures!  P.s- everyone stops us on our walks in the neighborhood now- He loves everyone- especially all of the kids- he rolls over on his stomach wanting to be petted. One time Steven was with me and started yanking on his tail in front of a neighbor on another street- he could not get over how good his disposition is with Steven. Steven can do just about anything to him and Meeko just lies there and takes it- and still loves being with him whenever he can. When walking he pulls me to any kids that he sees on the way!!"

“Karen,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note about Meeko – He is so different now that he realizes who God, Judge and Jury of the house is.  The time that he bit me I was going up the stairs while he was at the top with a bone – well this morning it was the same scenario – this time I was leaving the house telling him to behave himself (no pooping, peeing or chewing anything) I came up the stairs and leaned down to him (with a bone in his mouth) and he licked my face wagging his tail.  Prior to your advise I would not have been able to get near him.  He has met the broomstick twice since your email for growling at me.  I can’t thank you enough for being honest with me with what we needed to do – the attitude adjustment he has is amazing – he has always been 95% the sweetest dog you have ever met – to everyone – especially the kids.  But that other 5% was horrible when he would be like that.  Thanks again for being there when we needed you!

Michele”

Mukki - Sire~Paahuma

“Karen -- I have just recently taken in (in my mind rescued) a 2 year old NAID named Mukki -- sire M.V.'s Paahuma/dam M.V.'s Pasasa.

He was originally purchased…in February 2003.  He was born December 29, 2002 .

I have the certificate of authentic pedigree and what looks like registration papers, although they were never sent in.

Story is this -- last Thursday a friend of mine…called me very upset because her son and daughter-in-law were considering putting their dog down because he was so aggressive.  She swore he was a sweetheart and just didn't like R--- and J-------.  Well, long story short, my husband and I decided we just couldn't let them destroy him without at least giving him a chance.  So he arrived Friday night -- (this is only after they sold him on e-bay, but that buyer two days later said to come get him he was too mean) - so I got him third hand actually.

It was obvious when he arrived why he was aggressive -- he had a spike pronged choke chain on him and is VERY sensitive to any movement around his neck.  Well, as soon as R--- left - the collar came off and I swear that dog did a dance around me.    It has only been three days and we are just in love with him -- he is pretty good with my six cats and is wonderful with my 11 year old sheep dog/sheppard mix and three month old lab mix puppy -- however, he is very frightened of the horses.  I'm sure he'll get use to them soon enough.

Question for you -- what does "Mukki" mean?  R--- said it means child and J------- said it means friend.

Mukki is approximately 120-130 lbs -- very intimidating looking -- very wolfish -- silver grey with amber eyes -- beautiful!!!

He woke me up the very first morning by licking me in the face -- so much for the aggressive mean attack dog!!

We have had a few challenges -- but we TALK about it -- we don't beat him -- and he is responding to our way of communication wonderfully -- in fact -- after three days -- I would say he is becoming a very happy dog!

To go from a backyard 24/7 by himself -- to always with other animals or people -- he is much happier.

He doesn't appear to have had a wonderful start -- but at only two years old -- hopefully his next 17 years will make the first two just a bad memory.

I would love to talk to you about training methods to help us help Mukki overcome what aggression he does have -- mostly with his neck and coming in and out of doorways.

After three days he now lets us handle his collar area -- but he is still very cautious and trying real hard to trust us -- even to the point that when he growled and grabbed my hand because I touched his neck and he didn't like it  --he did not bite down -- just held it and glared at me -- I think he was just trying to tell me that I shouldn't touch his neck and that he really didn't want to hurt me.

I believe he is a dog that I will never own, but someday (hopefully soon) he will decide he owns us.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheryl Kubiak Sharer”

Raven Arnott

"She is 5 months on July 7, 2002 and she is getting REALLY big.  Actually, she is a great dog and has a wonderful personality.  The whole family loves her very much!!!  Raven weighs about 50 lbs and she is about 95% housebroken.  She has turned dark, not red like her mother.  We get compliments where ever we go about her calm character and her gentleness with children and other animals.  She would rather lick you than bite you.  She travels well in the car and has gone on camping trips several times and loves her visits to PetSmart."

“Hi Karen,

I just wanted to write you and let you know that the puppy you provided us with is great.  He has been named Tonto and he is having a lot of fun.

He seems quite intelligent and he will do absolutely anything for a piece of meat.  He likes other dogs but we are finding that a lot of them are scared of him!!  lol!!  The only ones who don't whimper away are a couple Rottweillers we know.

He has seemed to open up a lot in the last couple of weeks, and he gets better every day, even showing more affection than we hoped for.

Thank you very much again.

Sincerely,

Andrew”

“Hi Karen,

I dont know if you remember me but I purchased my puppy from you in February of last year and I thought you may be interested as to how he was doing.  My name is Andrew and I am from Barrie , On.  I have named my dog Tonto and he is just over a year old, he is the son of Saranac Sam and Pasasa, a red-tortoise shell.

Tonto has been a spectacular addition to our family, being extremely friendly, and absolutely caring.  I have never encountered such a peaceful and good-natured animal.  He loves to excercise and explore and my recent obedience training has made our lives together much easier.

He has just recently passed 120 lbs, but he is not at all overweight, just large framed.  I am constantly being stopped on the street and commented about his beauty, and friends of the family have insisted they will be in touch with you soon.

Tonto is very kind to our other Bichon frises, even when they often seem reluctant to accept him.  It is for this reason that play times have been arranged with other friend's labradors, so he can play with dogs of relatively equal size and age.

He really enjoys our cottage and cuddling with me on my bed is always expected.  Chewing seems to be his only major vice we haven’t been able to cure him of, so we must always ensure there is a lot of rawhide around.”
