Encampment of Piegan (Blackfoot) near Fort McKenzie and the Muscleshell River, Montana, in summer 1833.  Numbers of dogs crowd around the group of humans and horses in the center of the picture.  The Blackfoot saw their first horse in about 1730, and because it was enslaved to men, as was the dog, they called it "Big Dog".
