“Hi Karen,

We thought we’d give you a short update about the trip home and the new world they’ve discovered.  After we left Majestic View we drove strait through for 12 hours.  The puppies sat in the backseat with the non-driver keeping them company and they were fantastic.  They did not mind the leash during pit stops (four altogether) and they slept comfortably most of the way.  We arrived home at 0500 on Sunday morning and they acclimated beautifully to the new surrounding.  They did not eat much on Sunday but they sure picked up the slack today… the have a healthy appetite.  Both learned to go up and down the stairs and explored the entire house.  Leash training was very easy with the boy (we named him Tango Mecosta Forel), the girl (Cha-Cha Whitney Forel) is getting used to walk on a leash but not as good as the boy yet.  She is very smart despite her young age and picking up things real fast.  They love the back yard, it is fenced and puppy proved and they run around and play.  It rained heavy today and they just loved playing in the rain.  Cha-Cha stool is a bit soft but it is better today than yesterday (pills and less anxiety).  Tango is so much bigger and stronger and he is bossing her around and shows his dominancy. She gets back at him when he is not ready… we believe once the age and size difference is no longer a factor she will be calling the shots.  We took many pictures (attached) and we are very happy with them and look forward to many years of sharing love and experiences with them.  I’ll update you periodically and send photos if it is ok with you.  Thanks again for introducing us to the NAID and for trusting your babies with us.

Best regards,

Ilana & Aaron”

“Hi Karen,

Its been a while since our last e-mail.  Tango and Cha-Cha are growing up fast and doing great.  Attached is proof of spay for Cha-Cha, but keep the refund. By letting us have them you gave us enough.  Please use the money for the NAIDs.  Attached are a few recent photos of Tango, son of Mecosta and Fantastic Fred, and Cha-Cha daughter of Whitney and Looker.  He is very tall, long and lean, and he runs like the wind... real athlete.  Cha-Cha is long, full frame and not that tall.  She is powerful and very determined. Have a great Forth of July.

Best regards,

Aaron & Ilana”

“Hi Karen,

Tango is 18-months old... Cha-Cha is three weeks behind... the weather is getting nicer and it’s time for new photos.  We go daily on long walks and without exception, cars will stop and people will admire them and ask many questions.  There is a lot to admire beside their good looks.  They are so good, exceptionally smart and full of love.  Why own a dog when you can have a NAID? We will keep you posted.

 Cheers,

Aaron & Ilana”

Chief - Sire~Saranac Sam

Chief.JPG (37793 bytes)

“Hi Karen,
I got the red tortoise shell male from Whitney & Saranac Sam born the end of February (Chief), he has been a fantastic dog.  Last week he started acting sick, sleeping all day and quit eating and drinking, he has started shedding and his coat really smells, had some diarrhea, threw up only once that I know of.  Been at the vet every day, they have run blood work, stool and urine samples, x-rays, the vet has no clue what's up, all the tests come back OK.  Any thoughts about what could be wrong?  Thanks for any thoughts you may have, --Matt ..........found out his kidneys have shut down.........might lose him now for sure...........

___________________

 Hi Karen,
Thought I would drop you a line and give you an update on Chief. He was at a hospital for a few days for fluid therapy and his kidneys kicked back in. This hospital you would not believe..... they were nicer than a human hospital and more professional.  They ran all sorts of tests and did an ultra sound and everything came back good, it was driving the doctors crazy (they called every specialist they could think of!!!!).  When I checked him out on Monday one of the vets took him back and pulled one more blood sample.  The results came back today and it was positive for Leptospirosis.  Lepto is very very rare in AZ, and we don't even vaccinate for it because it’s so rare.  The lab could distinguish between the lepto vaccine you gave him and the one he has, I guess there are several strains.  He must have picked it up two weeks ago at our cabin, he spent three days in a pond chasing and catching fish, frogs and crayfish could not even get him out of the pond all weekend. Lol!!!   They really do love water!

He seems to be doing fine now and even though the vets had no clue what was wrong they did everything right with antibiotics and fluid therapy.  The prognosis looks good I think we caught it early and did all the right things.  You now have several people from the vet office and hospital who want a NAID after spending time with him,  I gave them your info. Attached are some new pictures he is now a BIG boy and getting bigger every day! Thanks for the help---Matt”

Chief Yuha Hupahu

"Hi Karen!
Attached is a picture of Chief Yuha Hupahu (Pahu, for short) Just wanted to say Happy Valentine's Day!  Sorry we haven't gotten back to you sooner, to  thank you for our incredible puppy! He is amazing! Pahu is doing very well. He has a personality unlike any puppy I have ever seen, and I am continually fascinated with the wisdom in his eyes. He is growing like a weed, more than doubled in size, in only three weeks! I can't wait to see how big he is going to be, and at the rate he's growing, I won't have to wait long ;)!
Thank you so much!

“Dear Karen:
We would like to update you on the NAID you sold us last October. We named her Dakota, and she has grown into a wonderful, loving, sweet and gentle dog who is a full fledged member of the family. Did I mention how smart she is? Well she is one of the smartest dogs I have ever owned and certainly the most beautiful. There isn't a person who sees her, that does not compliment her looks.
I am attaching a recent photograph of her.     Thanks so much.  R. Shapiro”

" Hi Karen,
He is truly wonderful and we love him dearly!!!  The plane trip was a bit traumatic, as was arriving at a new location.  The first 1-2 days he was pretty subdued, but boy is his personality showing now!  We are working on the crate potty training and he is doing so well.  What an incredibly smart little guy!  We love to have him out n the house playing with us when we are home (we can't get enough of him)  We have a large 7x14 kennel in the back yard with a large dog house that we set up for him and he LOVES it in there.  When he's playing out in the yard, he will whine a bit if the gate to his kennel is closed and he can't get in.  Or if I'm taking him on his "potty walk" out there he gets distracted and wants to go in the kennel and gets mad at me if he's not allowed!  He is so affectionate, but also tries to get his way when he doesn't like the restrictions we put on him.  It's pretty funny.  Anyway, we are so pleased with him.  We named him Dango.  He doesn't know it yet, but I'm sure he will in time!  It was getting lonely with our only child having married and moved away .  He has certainly been a welcome and wonderful addition.  And I think he's the most gorgeous guy (besides my husband, of course) in town!  Thank you again for making this possible for us.  We are VERY happy adoptive parents!  Alice"

“Dear Karen,

Just writing to let you know how great the puppy is working out. She made the trip fine and has been the best puppy I have ever had.  She has never whined or cried and seems to be very happy with her human family. She has been very trainable and can already walk well on a leash and sit on command. Thank you for such a great dog!!!

“Hi Karen,

This is a picture of Jenni and Meeko.  I just realized, they have similar hairdos.

Meeko is doing really well, growing and gaining weight.  I'm feeding her all the meat she can eat.  She's a very happy and friendly dog, a little spoiled, but such a sweetheart.  Jenni works, but Meeko and I are together all the time and somehow, we can communicate pretty well.  We have many activities, including visiting and playing with other dogs.

Meeko is very smart.  Today when I was working in the garden I looked and noticed Meeko was digging under the rabbit cage.  I told her to stop it and took her over to a water tub I had for her to cool off in, and washed her feet.  I went back to work and just about as soon as I turned my back, she was digging again.  Well, I said, "Hey!  Stop digging!"  She stopped and looked at me, and then I said, "Now go wash your feet off."  Would you believe, that's just exactly what she did.  She went over and put her front feet in the water tub.  She always has a surprise for me.

She watches airplanes fly over.  She'll hear it and look up.  I've never before noticed a dog do that.

Well, I have to say thank you very much.  I wish you well and hope for you're continued success.

Sincerely,

Craig Carlson”

Micco Cochi - Sire~Fantastic Fred

MiccoCochi 4.JPG (33711 bytes)

“Dear Karen,

This letter is long overdue. Micco Cochi has fit into our home as if he was born to be here. He sleeps with our 12 yr old beagle Loxy and plays all day with our PyrShep "Wally". His quiet and calm disposition fools you because he quietly and calmly gets into puppy trouble like stealing shoes and socks that we inadvertently leave around, or calmly taking bones away from the others. Now you realize that he does this all with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes.  I take him to puppy kindergarten and he does all that I ask him to do.

Karen, there is a calmness, niceness and gentleness in Micco that I have never seen before in any other breed.  He is a pleasure to live with and to take other places and watch other people's reaction to this wonderful animal.  And I am sure that you know this already but he is definitely a show stopper!!!!! What a gem he is!

Thank you for entrusting this wonderful animal to us.

Fondly,
Susan”

“Hi Karen,

I am finally getting around to sending you this photo of Naduah.  Isn't he Beautiful?

He is as big as a bear, but as soft and gentle as a kitten.  He truly does 'Keep warm with us'.  Thank you.  I may be moving to Arizona .  It will be better for my health.

I hope to someday get another.  I love my babies.  I mix them up chicken and rice to put with their food, my husband teases that they eat better than we do.

I am sorry about your husband, God bless you and keep you.

“Hi Karen:

I hope you remember us, Don & Jeannie Bitler ( Scottsdale , AZ. ) .  We got NINO about 17 months ago (pictures attached).  He is such a wonderful dog.  Bright, loving and great with other dogs.  Our only regret is we only got one, and should have gotten two.  We have a flat coated retriever and do love him but he is getting old and we are afraid he may not be around much longer.  Consequently, we are considering getting another just like Nino.

It is impossible to take Nino anyplace without people coming up and wanting to know all about him.  Seems everyone loves him.

Anyway, we would like a pup, male if possible,   I'm not sure I have completely talked Jeannie into it yet (or maybe she is talking me into it) but could you tell me the time line for a pup?  I guess when I hear from you I will start the ball rolling.  Thank-you Don & Jeannie & Nino”

Pahuu - Sire~Fantastic Fred

Paahu son of Whitney and Fantastic Fred....loves vegetables(carrots broccoli & cauliflower) and fresh fruit   One evening Paahu was in his owner's face bugging her for something out of the frig.  She pushed his head aside with her hands and muttered, "After this show is over I'll get you something"    Paahu sighed, then sat by her feet.  After a few seconds he got went up to the TV and shut it off, turned around and grinning wagged his tail and headed for the frig.

“Hello Karen,

I just wanted to let you know all is going well here in Maryland . It took us 11 hours to get home and Sakari slept most of the time. The remaining time, she howled. She is so sweet, we just love her to bits. She does have a stubborn side though. She doesn't like to listen to the command "Come". Actually I think she's a little confused because when we say that, she goes the other way. We start puppy classes this week so hopefully that will help. She also likes to paddle the water out of her bowl and when she isn't doing that she lies next to the bowl and dips her face in the water and then rubs it all over her legs. She's a trip. We took her for her first visit to the vet two days ago (she's 11 weeks) and she weighs 19 pounds and is very healthy. They all just loved her there. Here are a few pictures of her. We'll keep you updated as often as we can.

Thank you for such an awesome pup!

God Bless,

Jay and Sandy”

Samson - Sire~Fantastic Fred

“Hi Ms. Markel,

My husband and I have a dog, aptly named Samson, who is now almost 2 years old.  He was an owner release at the local Humane Society & was so big & beautiful & goofy, we had to take him home.  He was only described as "malamute mix," but my husband & I knew that there was more to it than malamute.  I have tried for almost a year now to figure out what kind of dogs Samson might have come from.  Your pictures of Whitney are the closest I have been able to find & the breed description fits him so well.  Even though it is doubtful he was bred to be an NAID (more likely, he was a big, fluffy accident), whatever combo created him has produced a dog as beautiful & wonderful as this breed.  I hope you continue to be successful.

...Thanks for a great site & with great information,

Dana Karstensen-Bryan”

I did some research and found out that Samson was indeed a Whitney /Fantastic Fred pup born Dec. 15, 2002 .   He was sold to a Native American and his wife in Washington , and dropped off at a local Humane Society shelter several miles from the reservation that the N.A.s lived on.    I knew he was one of mine, the looks just don't lie.   Karen Markel ~ Majestic View Kennels
