Training to be a Search and Rescue Dog."

“Hi Karen:
Kachina is still amazing me with her intelligence and
manipulation!! She has finally gotten over her car sickness just
this summer. She is now 2 years old.
Kachina can track, find articles on her track that are no more than a
couple of inches in size hidden in the grass. I cannot trust her to
do live find because there are some humans that Kachina does not find
worthy and I fear that she will let them know. lol! I figure
she knows them better than I do!!!
She is learning to find cadaver and human remains and does very well at
that job, too. She learns things very quickly and doesn't forget like most
dogs do in their training. She bores easily and has to be worked
often or she finds things to entertain herself that can be destructive.
As my chief said....Let's get her up to water search and then we will have
her on a boat where she won't have contact with undesireable humans.
I
have had two puppies in the house since she came to live and she loves
ushering puppies around.
My yard has no stray critters. Kachina catches all the mice, birds
and squirrels. She gets up high on walls or on the couch and leaps
down onto the other dogs like a cougar....legs spread and paws used like
cat paws. She can jump on a 4 foot wall just by standing by it and
springing up.
She is a real character. I am not sure you have another like
her but I don't think the average pet owner would be up to handling this
girl! She is one step ahead of everyone!
